It was so very long ago. Not many years after East High, Russ was hitch hiking back to Utah State in Logan and he never made it to school. At least a year later his body was found in a culvert in the canyon. As far as I ever heard, no one knew what happened. Peace.

I remember it.  I was working at the Teton Explorer Canoe Base down from Jackson Hole on the Snake River.  His body was found in a culvert up the hill on the other side of road from our base camp.  That would have been in the early seventies.  Everytime I've driven to Jackson I remember him as I pass that culvert. It's kind of eerie thinking of him being in there the entire summer that we lived in that camp.  The weather can change so suddenly in that canyon no matter the time of year.  I always assumed he crawled in there to get out of the weather or spend a night that he wasn't dressed for .  Spent too many hours and miles walking to hitch a ride around Jackson in those years myself.  I remember Russ as a pleasant person to be around.  I never pictured him as the type of guy that would be hitchhicking by himself out there.
