Picture #89 Emos's Grave. How many Eastsiders visited it and did the match thing?

Preston - Dan,

Hello.  Teri Arnold (Lambourne) here from class of '69.   Question:  is the photo in  #89 truly Emos's grave?  I grew up in the avenues and our "gang"  went there many times, but the scardy-cat I was then, I never actually went to the gravesite but stayed on the curb outside of the cemetary - quivering - waiting for the others to return.  One of those others was my brother, Mike Lambourne, who is one year younger than I and a junior at the time I was a senior (we shared driving our parents red and white Edsel station wagon to school - ha!).. Mike was one of those brave enough, at least in my young eyes, to venture to the gravesite.  Sadly, Mike is now walking the 'Glory Road' back home.. He was recently diagnosed with a fast moving cancer and has less than a month before he passes on.  He is still living in Salt Lake with his family and I am traveling there later this week to be with him and the fam for a final visit.  I would love to have this picture of Emos's grave as part of our memory of teen years for our gathering.  So, thus my question:  is this truly Emos's grave?????     Thanks so much, Teri Lambourne Arnold, Seward, Alaska.

Ah, Good Ol' Google!  Found my answer when looking up 'Emo's Grave'  and there it was - a great article from the archives of the Salt Lake Trib.  Yes, this is dear Ol' Emo's gravesite - Aka:  Jacob Moritz.  Wonder what his high school year book predicted he would be known for???!!

Hi Eastsiders! I'm passing along a notice from Karen Simpson's husband Dan. Please see below. The photo is from October with me, Dan, Ray V., Karen, Terry Landa V. and Simon V.

Hello all, I wanted to let you know that Karen passed this morning (11/26/16) at midnight (she always knew how to do it right).  She died peacefully and, while expected, is nothing I looked forward to reporting.

I know it's a bit unorthodox sending a group email but we all have one thing in commom, we love and will miss Karen, and, I'm not much of a telephone person (as many of you know).

Karen fought the good fight and more than doubled the intial expectation of her prognosis, but, in the end, she just couldn't fight any longer and I hated to see what was such a vibrant, loving person be reduced to a shell of her former self, so, I welcome her release.

One interesting note for those that are into the more existential thoughts, I really feel I saw little beads of light rising out of her face and head as the end approached.  It is something I believe in, that the energy that powers our physical bodies is ongoing (she promised to come back as a good dog, a promise I hope she keeps and I wait for.  She said "you'll know").

One request I have is that, while the sentiment is appreciated, you need not send flowers or cards but instead donate what would have been spent to Huntsman Cancer Institute, the Utah Food Bank and/or No More Homeless Pets (for those out of State, the local equivalent if desired).  This was Karen's wish and I concur.

Let's just hold the memories of Karen in our hearts forever and allow me to end by sharing something I told her just a couple of days ago.  When we connect with someone, a little bit of the ethereal energy in us is exchanged between us, so, a little bit of my energy is with hers and a bit of her energy is within me, forever.  That's the beauty of connecting, we're never truly alone as long as we were willing to give a bit of ourselves to those we care about.

Thank you all for being Karen's (and my) friends.
Dan Marrs and (somewhere "out there," Karen)

This makes me so sad!  I loved Karen's humor and joy, and had no idea she was ill...Joann, can you tell me what she died of, and please tell her husband how truly sorry we all are at his loss!  Thanks, Holly Williams Schelin

Joann, thank you for this information on Karen. Thinking back on our days at East, I smile. Karen always had a big smile and laugh. Please express my condolences to Karen's family. Karen will be missed.

Dear Holly:  Cancer was the culprit.  Even as cancer spread throughout her body, Karen's mind was sharp and she tracked to the very end.

Her husband Dan's heart will be lightened as he reads the posts. xoxo

Today I am saddened  to learn of Karen's suffering and recent passing.  We grew up only a half block from eachother.  I think of her fondly when I drive past her home on Padley St.   I will keep a smile in my heart in her memory, forever.

East High were state champs for the second year in a row.  Running backJaylen Warren ran for over 6,000 years (485 average per game) and most of his offensive line was named first team with him.  http://www.sltrib.com/sports/4654294-155/prep-football-easts-jaylen-warren-named.

This isn't a response to any of the poseted messages - it a heart felt worry about our United States of America. The Turmp era is driving us to a 'no-goodnik' place in history and I hope and pray that we as a people will stand our ground for what is right and good - to remember the Lord's and Etenal Falther's teaching and make sure we are aware of the positions, government beliefs, and how they have voted before or how they ave governed in theie state.  I know this time in history is suppoed to be - because our country is truly hanging by a very thin thread.

Oh yeh, I do want to wish you who have had B-days 'Happy Birthday' and those family members who have had loved ones pass on - they are home now - and as a Latter-day Saint - I know they are close by you.  God bless us all!

I know that I am about six to seven years late on this responding to the prayer and fasting list from 2010. There are a few things that I have learned over the years:(1) We should never lose faith in God, (2) He is much closer to us and knows us better than we know ourselves, (3) That with God, all things are possible,(4) Jesus Christ often associated prayer and fasting together to answer the righteous desires of our hearts. These principles cross all religious affiliations and are operative based on faith in God. I want to congratulate those that participated in this effort.

The majority of the world's population does not beleive in Jesus Christ.  Your 'all religious affiliations' is incorrect. Hindus, Muslims, Jews, atheists, agnostics, Budhists, ect.

Larry, I read Jon's comment as referring to fasting and prayer as common across many religions, not belief not your Jewish brother, Jesus.  I think you have always enjoyed a good fast as much as the next guy.

Jon I appreciate the effort you made to share what you are learning . No matter how varied our faiths are to reach that "Higher Power" it is real and we can all be strengthened by it.

A careful reading of the Old Testament and the New Testament reveal that fasting was common practice among the Jews and later the followers of Jesus Christ. The discussion on fasting and prayer was to show how one can get closer to God in the Judeo-Christian tradition.

Thank-you

Almost a decade without politics and religion on our great HIGH SCHOOL CLASS website.  Hopefully those so inclined will go back to sleep.

Change of subject! We're all at the retirement stage of life and I've decided to retire after teaching elementary school music for 25 years and wondered what some of you are doing in your retirement. It would be fun to hear about your adventures, missions, travels, second careers, save the world causes, etc.

Although i read many of the emails that come along, I haven't responded. However Grobstein may be the most interesting classmate we had so if he shares his insight,  I will follow his lead.  Over the years, I have  become good friends, with Christians of various faiths, Jews, and a few Muslim.  I have studied yoga and learned of Hindus and other eastern religions   I am a much better person when I learn from a variety of opinions .  I have friends who have been sober for many years and a "God" who is very important in their lives    The more  inclusive I am with respect to other people, religions, and political beliefs, the better my life.  While I don't agree with all religions, political beliefs, etc. I am always better off for listening to perspectives   Almost 50 years ago we graduated  and I am grateful for the the 3 years at east high.    we have an outstanding group that we call classmates    I mourn those that have already passed on, way to early in life .  I am still living in Holladay,I  like to work so I still go into the office when I am in town   My son and son in law now work for me and we continue to give them more responsibilities   My wife and I have 3 children and 9 grandchildren .  Life is good and I choose not to argue, especially on line over differences in religion or politics.  May 2017 be a very satisfying year for you   Best regards Thackeray

Just got through reading all your responses to fasitng and Christainty - through my many years of studying the scriptures - pondering them and coming to know for myself that our Eternal Father and his son, Jesus Christ, live. I feel if , you all don't mind, I would like to join this interesting conversation: First - I know that many different religious sects fast -- please go to 'Fasting Chart - Beliefnet.com - This chart explains the many different ways fasting is used in religions of old and today. Second - I know that Jesus knew fasting WOULD strengthen one's spirituality and also one's desire to work through hardships. Third - Christ himself fasted for 40 days, fasted when he went to be taught by his Father above, and told his deciples that unholy spirits can only be rebuked (removed) by fasting and prayer. And lastly - fasting does help us to reason more clearly (or righteously) when we need answers or direction in lifes difficult choices.

I am glad this converstation of religous point of veiws and our nation's (and globle) worries and concerns are being addressed - Hey, classmates does this mean we're growing up?
