I say, Happy Holidays and live and let live....yes there are serious things happening in the country and the world, but can’t we just have fun with each other and produce a good laugh?  Don’t take things so seriously people if they weren’t meant to be...this forum is not the place to vent your spleen...there are plenty of people in your lives who would be happy to debate you if you want a debate...I love to see that 50 years later Dan, Barry and others can still mKe me laugh!!!😜

THANK YOU REED!  After starting to read these lastest posts, which started me down my adolescent memory lane to review all my, with the forums help and education,  totally inappropriate behaviors, out came the eggnog and 100 proff Whisky!  Thankfully came your post and I put the eggnog right back in the fridge!  After the thrid Whiskey got busy on Dan's Oxford comma project.

Now headed out the door for the airport bound for a cruise out of Rome for my beautiful wife of 30 years 58th birthday on December 24.

To be older and wise, one had to be at a certain stage in their life, young and foolish. I am not sure it is either a good idea or fair to oneself to judge what you may have done or thought 50 years ago, with what you are or aspire to be today.

I believe you are correct Crit.  No matter who you are or what you may become you are a process of change.  I may be embarrassed by some things I have done, I don't run away from that embarassment, but I really don't believe those actions define me or who I am today.  Hopefully that makes sense

Sorry you had to experience that - be grateful you didn't get shot or see someone else being hit.  We ARE in the last days.  Hold on and stay close to the Lord and his prophet!

Our wolrd has gone crazy with violence - It makes me sad.  People who I love have and are now purchasing guns that are made to kill humans - I trust in the Lord and if I am killed by a violent or mentally damaged person so be it.  I cannot condone the use of firearms made for war!                  The real problem is fear and unstable people who think they are braver owning war weapons that are made to kill human beings!

Terry, they shot and killed him when he was running away.  He had already stopped shooting.  True, he may have shot someone else later that day or possibly ten years from now.  Once he finished non-critically wounding the three people, the two “good guys,” as the NRA would like to characterize them, acted like the judge and jury.  They convicted and executed him.

Follow this:

The US makes up 5% of the world population but owns nearly 50% of all civilian guns.  Only 31% of US homes have guns.  So about 50%  all the guns in the world are in 1.5% of the homes in the world and they are located in the USA.

In the US, approximately 300 people a day are shot by gun owners and about 92 of them don't survive.  About 1 in 30 shootings in the home are in self defense.  The other 29 are homicides, accidents, or suicide.

In 2012, there were 1.2 million violent crimes, defined as murder, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault in the US. Or, put another way, 1.2 million scenarios in which there was potential for someone to kill in self-defense.  Yet there were only 259 justified homicides.

Match those 259 justifiable homicides with the theft of about 232,000 guns each year, about 172,000 of them during burglaries. That’s a ratio of one justifiable homicide for every 896 guns put in the hands of criminals.

Guns aren’t making America safer.  They are making gun manufacturers rich.

Kate,

Great advice.  To be clear, when you refer to "his prophet" you are pointing to Muhammad, right?

Terry,  I got the information off of your post.  As the gunman ran from the scene, two bystanders got their own handguns from the trunks of their vehicles, then confronted and fatally shot the attacker outside the restaurant, Mathews said Friday.”

According to the “More Guns, Less Crime” hypothesis, with higher levels of gun ownership we would expect to see lower crime rates in those categories. By contrast, studies have found that states with the lowest rates of firearm ownership (Connecticut, Hawaii, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, California, Florida, Illinois, and Maryland) had significantly lower rates of firearm-related assault and robbery, firearm homicide, and overall homicide.

States with the highest gun-ownership levels (Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, Arkansas, Arizona, West Virginia, North Dakota, Idaho, Mississippi, and Alabama), had 6.8 times the rate of firearm assaults, 2.8 times the rate of firearm homicides, and twice the rate of overall homicides than states with the lowest gun-ownership levels.

I did not mention anything about taking away anyone’s guns.  Nor does anyone I know except the NRA, and that is just propaganda to win elections and sell guns.  I am interested in reasonable gun laws like automobile laws that have reduced traffic deaths per mile driven by over 99% since 1920. All the while vehicles have increased in varieties, size, speed, velocity, acceleration, weight, range and capacity. Reasonable automobile laws have made cars safer. Drivers are trained and have licenses, dangerous drivers are not allowed to drive, there is an age requirement, and whenever there is a safety improvement laws are passed to insure that all cars have those safety measures.

Regarding the question about whose house the killer would go to, the odds are 30 to 1 that if there is a killing in the house, the killer is within, and the so is the weapon.

I agree with conservative Senator Lindsey Graham, “The Constitution’s a sacred document, but it is not a suicide pact.”  “This is not hard for me. Due process is important, but at the end of the day, we are at war.”

Senator Graham also said, “To my friends at the NRA, I understand your concern about denying somebody the right to buy a gun, that’s a constitutional right. But every right — whether speech or buying a weapon or any other constitutional right — has boundaries on it.”

Terry, it appears that you and I enjoy discussing politics, and people need to have this discussion so we can begin the process of reducing gun deaths in America, but this isn’t the purpose of this forum. Your response is welcome, but please do so on my personal page and anyone who is interested can check in there.  I apologize to anyone who may have found this thread inappropriate or offensive.

With respect,

Hear, Hear Bob!  Great article you posted!  I have copied it and am sending it to my family members who feel the need to have 'death-weapons' in their homes.  I am in awe of those who use rifles, bow & arrow for hunting to keep thier family alive - Hopefully we can find other means in our United States to keep us safe.

Mr. Spinks, You may think I look like a dog who has no thoughts of her own - but this I know for sure - Those who 'lap up' the B.S. trump and his misplaced cronies spout, truly do not have a place in their hearts for the common man, woman, or child!  I can see that you follow 't' with a great smile on your face - do you ever wonder what has this evil man has done for you?  Do you ever concider the global mess he and his counselors have come up with - Do you ever concider the nepotism and narcissism mr. t has pushed on Americans - The answer I am sure is 'No'!  I find your comment offensive and do not remember asking you to reply on my answers.  Oh, I forgot this is a forum for comment - I am an advicate of gun control - we are a very violent country and we do not need guns for purchase that are made to kill many people in just a few minutes.

Thank you Kate, I support you one hundred percent, The Donald is nothing more than a bully, and an imbarisment . I don’t under stand why the a same weapon are available to the public that I carried in Viet Nam. I don’t really have much of a problem with other weapons

I dunno Kate.  I live in Texas and I feel much safer knowing that my neighbors are armed and would come to my defense if I was ever threatened. I believe an armed society is a polite society. As far as violence and  access to powerful weapons goes, there are far fewer gun related crimes today than there were 20 years ago. There is a problem of angry, anti social young men committing or trying to commit mass murder in places where people cannot defend themselves though. It has happened here in Texas but it has been a civilian with a gun who has stopped many of these incidences. This is a mental health problem, not a gun problem.  As far as Trump goes, I would be careful what you say and how you say it. It was the arrogance of progressives demeaning  those that don't agree with them that got him elected. If you don't want to see that happen again be civil in your discourse.
